    See how Dr. Arpana Shekhar, expert Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Specialist, successfully performed a critical voice restoration surgery at Holy Promise Hospital, Patna

    The patient, a 25-year-old young man, was facing long-term speech issues and was diagnosed with Sulcus Vocalis and right vocal cord palsy. Normally, we have two vocal cords (right and left) in the throat that work together by opening and closing to produce sound. In this patient’s case, one vocal cord was not functioning properly. The affected cord also had Sulcus Vocalis, which had caused a groove (depression) on the vocal fold, preventing smooth vibration and sound production. Due to this condition, the patient's voice was unclear, breathy, and lacked normal resonance.

    To treat this, Dr. Arpana Shekhar performed an advanced procedure called Injection Laryngoplasty. In this minimally invasive surgery, a special material is injected into the affected vocal cord to add volume and fill the groove, improving the cord’s ability to vibrate. The entire procedure was performed using endoscopic or microscopic guidance, with no external cuts or stitches. The surgery was completed successfully, and the patient was discharged the next day. After just one week, the patient showed significant improvement in voice quality and is now able to speak much more clearly.
